Retreat?!?

When Christian and I became the stewards of Idylwild, the dream was that we’d move there when he retired. I would garden and grow things, he would build trails, and we would wander around the property every day with each other, the dogs, and our kids when they came to visit (and stay in the tiny homes we built for them on the property). Since then, we’ve expanded our dreams to also include rentals for people to immerse themselves in nature and with each other, and a retreat and wellness center. These dreams are still expanding, but I wanted to dig into the retreat center a bit more.

Some of you may know that I didn’t plan on holding space for others to connect with themselves, at least not formally. (If I am honest, I’ve been doing this my whole life, and thanks to my dear friend Patricia for reminding me of this earlier this year.) As we explored the property during our first year with it, I knew I wanted to develop a retreat center on it. I didn’t know how it would be used just yet, but I knew it was to be done.

As these things go, once I committed and named my dream to others, I got more clarity. The clarity that I was meant to hold retreats in Lawrenceburg. (If you want to know more about my getting the call to serve in this way, hit reply and ask away!) The thing was, we weren’t going to build on the property for a while, and so how was I going to hold retreats there anytime in the next 5 years?

Thankfully, some of my dear sisters at monthly circle at the Treehouse said they’d love to go for a retreat at the property. This invitation to explore the idea of how that would feel or what that would look like lit me up! In fact, I spent an afternoon on my hammock at Idylwild in March starting to sketch it all out. I shared the idea a bit more after circles and got some more feedback before researching and planning some more. I am so grateful for all of you who have helped to shape this dream into reality before I thought it was possible.

That’s the way dreams go. You’re rarely ready for them, but you know when they are right for you and you step forward knowing that you can grow into them (even if you need a loving nudge). If you’re interested in the idea of attending a retreat in Lawrenceburg, TN in October, here’s the survey link to provide your input. I’d love to hear from you.
