We refer to our property in Lawrenceburg, TN by the name Idylwild. It’s a curious word, really. Around the world there are towns and cities and streets named Idylwild - or some spelling variation such as Idyllwild or Idylwylde. In fact, Jaime went to college in Prescott, Arizona and fondly remembers Idywild as the street where her permaculture instructor lived.
But none of these places is where our property name originated.
Long before Jaime and Christian had met, Christian had dreams to live on 40 acres of secluded land once he retired. And he wanted to call that land Idylwild.
To Christian, the word means, “That I am relaxed but excited. Still but wild. All of my senses are heightened while I am perfectly still, taking in all of that is around me. I am taken away from the daily grind to an amazing, out of this world experience. An experience that almost transports me to another place.”
Or, as ChatGPT extracted from Quora, “The word "idlewild" refers to a place or time of leisure and relaxation, often associated with a rural or natural setting. It can also be used to describe a state of idleness or inactivity. The term has a nostalgic and romantic connotation, evoking a sense of escape from the demands of everyday life.”
So this land in Lawrenceburg, TN is our Idylwild. And we hope that it will be yours, too.
